Event producer Debra Heesch and Open Space for Arts & Community will welcome Mike Love and his six-piece reggae band to the island at 8 p.m. Saturday at Open Space, with doors at opening at 7 p.m.

Special guest musician Adrian Xavier will join the band. The evening will include live art by Spencer Sinner Artworks and a pre-show acoustic set by Chai Ste Marie and Josh Dehaven of Sum Band.

Love was born to a musical family that spans several generations. Raised on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, he is one of reggae music’s rising stars. He brings a multitude of influences to his music with the expressed desire of making the world a better place.

His debut album, “The Change I’m Seeking,” pays homage to the legends of roots reggae in both the lyrics and sound.

But Love does not rely on just one genre, rather, his music stems from a wealth of influences. As a teenager, he played classical piano, later performing in high school bands akin to the grunge sounds of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.

Love fuses the simple rhythms of classic reggae with the complex changes of classical and rock music. He is wrapping up his second album, “Love Will Find a Way.”

His musical message and passion have always been about going deeper.

I’ve never been into music that was shallow. All the messages that come through the music, it’s not just coming through me and my wisdom, because I don’t think I’m that wise of a person. I just make myself open to the music and it just comes through,” Love said.

Love has shared the stage with artists such as Stephen Marley, Don Carlos, Trevor Hall, Nahko & Medicine for the People, John Butler Trio, Groundation, Steel Pulse, Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson.
