Café Luna will exhibit oil paintings by island artist Steven Ellis for the month of September. Ellis has been painting for over 30 years, and his work has been shown in group shows. This will be Ellis’ first solo show.

Dance — not art — will be the focus at Hastings-Cone Gallery next to Snapdragon on Friday night. Owners Megan Hastings and Adam Cone will hold a Sophia Loren Red Dress dance party to celebrate an upcoming two-week trip to Italy for the Snapdragon staff. Islanders are invited.

“We paid for half of the tickets for (the staff), and they paid the other half,” Hastings said. “We thought summer is so crazy on Vashon, it would be great to have something to look forward to. We have an amazing staff of people who we love. Most of them have never been (to Italy) before, so we thought we would create a fun trip for everyone.”

The restaurant, bar and gallery will be closed from Sept. 4 to 20.

Island artist Will Forrester recently sent out 10 unfinished watercolors to islanders, asking for descriptions of what they saw in the images. With the suggestions in mind, Forrester completed the watercolors, which will be on display at Heron’s Nest. The artist described the project as a “descent into our collective Vashon Weird subconscious.” Also showing at Heron’s Nest will be work by Alex and Jean Echevarria, artists and owners of WabiSabi Studios. The pair lived in Japan, were married in a Buddhist temple there and have been deeply influenced by the experiences.

Hinge Gallery will exhibit a carefully curated collection of architectural artifacts and consigned antiques from Kimberly Baker and Constance Conroy.

Raven’s Nest will show work by native artist Andy Everson. Born in Comox, British Columbia, and named Nagedzi after his grandfather — the late Andy Frank, chief of the K’ómoks First Nation — Everson was also greatly influenced by his grandmother. He works to uphold the traditions of the K’ómoks and Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations, singing traditional songs and performing ceremonial dances at potlatches.

VALISE Gallery will continue showing its two-man exhibit featuring Seattle artist Jeff Farnam and Vashon artist Jim Woodring.

The Hardware Store Restaurant will exhibit new paintings in a range of sizes and prices by Olivia Pendergast.

Vashon Center for the Arts’ Koch Gallery will exhibit artwork to be auctioned at the nonprofit’s 2016 art auction, “Come Together: Celebrating 50 Years,” on Sept. 23 and 24.

Work by more than 130 Vashon artists, including commissioned pieces by Erin Shultz (oil painting), Ralph Moore (island-sourced wood), Zuzana Korbelarova (jewelry), David Kroll (oil painting), Darsie Beck (soapstone sculpture) and Jean Emmons (watercolors), will be on display. The artwork will be offered in the live and silent auctions.

Vashon Intuitive Arts will show watercolors by Terry Jansen, with music from 7 to 9 p.m. with Marcus Jones-Moore, rap artist.
