A talented group of veteran performers, island women in their 40s and 50s, plan to push the limits of possibility in the form of a hybrid theatrical show called “50 Sense Circus” at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, and 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Open Space for Arts & Community.

In what might be called a mission statement developed from their collective years of performing, the group — Martha Enson, Janet McAlpin, Leah Mann, Sumayya Diop and poet Storme Webber— wants the audience to understand “that the real price of admission to a great life is the admittance that you are more powerful than you imagine,” according to a press release.

Performing on a triple trapeze, with dervish Spanish web spinning, bungee drops, strip tease, roller skate extravaganza and spoken word, these daring professionals playfully want to share, or demonstrate, their 50 cents on life and death, courage and fear, abundance and scarcity.

With big sets and scaffolding to build, the group hopes to fund their new show through a Kickstarter Campaign with the fast approaching deadline of Dec. 29. The project can be found by visiting www.kickstarter.com and searching for “50 Sense Circus.”

If the Kickstarter campaign meets its financial goal, then the group will also give a kickback of sorts to the Vashon DoVE Project and Eve Ensler’s 1 Billion Rising Project by donating proceeds from the door to these two nonprofit organizations.
