UMO students to fly, flip and spin into an “Enchanted Forest”

More than 70 students, ages 5 to 18, along with their UMO teachers, have spent their spring semester creating performance pieces inspired by forest magic

The UMO School of Physical Arts will present “The Enchanted Forest,” a showcase of work by the school’s students, at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Open Space for Arts and Community.

More than 70 students, ages 5 to 18, along with their UMO teachers, have spent their spring semester creating performance pieces inspired by forest magic. Think fairies, mushrooms, chipmunks, deer, bunnies, floating leaves, and tumbling boulders, flipping and flying through presentations of gymnastics, aerial routines, parkour, clowning and more — all imagined and choreographed by the students.

It’s all family-friendly entertainment that aims to inspire and amaze.

The UMO School of Physical Arts seeks to inspire creative possibility and recognize students’ creative force by giving them a safe place to learn and a variety of tools based on UMO’s dynamic physical theatre.

Founded in 2007, the school has welcomed more than 1,000 students, with many going on to become performers, choreographers, clowns and teachers themselves.

Doors for the show will open at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, June 4, at Open Space for Arts and Community, located at 18870 103rd Ave SW. Tickets, on sale at the door and online at openspacevashon.org, are $20 for adults, and free for younger than 18 years old.
