Vashon arts events, April 1-28

Russell Clepper, a Texas-bred singer/songwriter, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Café Luna. Clepper’s music is influenced by gospel, bluegrass and folk music as well as songwriters such as John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot and a number of lesser-known Texas artists. The concert is free.

Marilyn Kay and Company will perform bluegrass and traditional country music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Café Luna. The band includes Islander Rochelle Munger on banjo. The show is free.

Celtic music players and knitters are invited to gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at Café Luna for a combination of jigs, reels, polkas and homespun crafting. This free gathering is held every third Sunday of each month.

RedPerl, a well-known duo comprised of Islanders Daryl Redeker and Sarah Perlman, will perform at 9 p.m. Friday, April 16, at Buddha Bar & Lounge, located in Spice Route Cuisine of India. Redeker plays guitar, and Perlman plays violin. The show is free.

The Spotlights, a Vashon band comprised of Scotty Johnson, John Lund, Matt Eggleston, Loren Sinner and Danny Cadman will play rock, blues and oldies with special guest guitarist Jerry Todo at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Red Bicycle Bistro. The show is free and for all ages until 11 p.m. The venue is restricted to ages 21 and older after 11 p.m.

“An Evening of Earnest Frivolity,” a benefit for Islander and noted photographer John Anderson, who has Parkinson’s Disease, will take place at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, at Vashon Theatre. The evening will include screenings of John Anderson’s films and desserts from The Monkey Tree. Tickets are $25 and are available in advance at The Monkey Tree, Vashon Theatre, Books by the Way and www. johnandersonbenefit.eventbrite.com. Raffle tickets for a large scale print of an Anderson photograph are $10 and are also for sale at the above locations. All proceeds from the evening will go toward Anderson’s medical expenses.
