What’s Happening Nov. 26 – Dec. 3

Vashon Live will present “Behind The Names: Breonna Taylor,” and present a concert by Danny Newcomb.

Behind the Names

Vashon Live will present “Behind The Names: Breonna Taylor” a remembrance and discussion with Micaila Hopkins and Bonny Moss, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at facebooklive.com/vashonlive.

The event will be live-streamed from Vashon Live’s new home at Open Space for Arts & Community. The discussion will take a look at the real people behind racism and police brutality in America and what has and has not happened in the aftermath of these cases. Hopkins, child of a white mother and black father, will share well-researched and informed perspectives on the people behind the names and racism in this country. They will be joined by Bonny Moss, artist and activist, for a discussion on these issues and more.

Danny Newcomb Live

Vashon Live will present a concert by Danny Newcomb and his band, live-streamed from Open Space for Arts & Community, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at Facebook.com/vashonlive.

Newcomb and the band will play Newcomb’s new CD, “Mackerel Sky,” in its entirety. The singer/songwriter’s bio reads like a who’s who of Seattle rock.

He started playing guitar with Mike McCready when he was nine, playing shows in middle school and high school with the band Shadow. He was the founding member of Goodness in the 1990s. Signed to Atlantic records and Epic Records, Newcomb was also the founding member of the Rockfords with McCready. He toured nationally and opened for Pearl Jam, Oasis, Cheap Trick, The Smithereens and Elliot Smith. He has released four solo records. In his spare time, he now raises sheep and lives on Vashon Island.
