Work by 112 artists fills VCA in VIVA members’ show

For its annual members’ show, VIVA asks members to showcase one or two of their artworks, and this year, 112 artists responded to the call.

Vashon Island Visual Artists (VIVA) 5th Annual Members Show opens on Friday, June 3, at Vashon Center for the Arts, with an opening reception planned for 5 to 8 p.m. that evening.

“This is the third year we have hosted VIVA’s member show and we couldn’t be happier,” says gallery director Lynann Politte.

This show comes on the heels of VIVA’s successful artists’ studio tour in May — the first time the event had been presented since 2019. Tour-goers were able to visit 36 studios and galleries representing 90 artists and craftspeople during the two-weekend event.

For its annual members’ show, VIVA asks members to showcase one or two of their artworks, and this year, 112 artists responded to the call.

“This is an exciting exhibition that reflects the diversity of work and approach to art being created on Vashon,” said Politte.

VIVA artists will exhibit in all the areas of the gallery space within Kay White Hall, including the tall atrium walls, in the Koch Gallery, and in the gift shop. Both large and small works will be on view, including photography, paintings, prints, assemblage work, sculptures, pottery, jewelry and fiber art. The show will run through June 26.

VIVA, at 300 members strong and growing, is a non-profit, volunteer organization formed to support local artists in a variety of ways. In addition to the group’s artist studio tours and all-member invitational exhibit, it hosts an annual membership meeting, an all-member summer picnic, an organizational winter potluck and a booth during the annual Vashon Strawberry Festival that raises funds for a scholarship for Vashon High School graduates.
