The Vashon Youth Musical Theatre will present “The Snow Queen” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist church.

The coming-of-age musical, directed by Marita Ericksen, is adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story “The Snow Queen,” which also inspired the Disney animated film “Frozen.” The musical follows the adventures of best friends Gerda and Kai. When Kai becomes trapped in the Snow Queen’s palace, Gerda embarks on a dangerous quest to rescue her friend.

Pre-show songs will include the choral suite from “Frozen,” which some of the singers will perform in December with the Vashon Island Chorale.
