Last summer, island-born musician Jacob Bain (Publish the Quest and Trolls Cottage) helped bring the Zimbabwe band Mokoomba to the island for a wildly successful evening of African world music.

On Thursday, Bain will introduce another Zimbabwe musical phenom, Blessing Chimanga, who will play an hour-long free show from 7 to 8 p.m. at Snapdragon.

“Blessing and I have been friends for five years,” Bain said. “He’s a ripper, an amazing drummer and marimba player. He’s the go-to drummer in Zimbabwe.”

Chimanga is also the frontman for the international band Zimboita, comprised of a fellow Zimbabwean and two Italians.

This is Chimanga’s first visit to the U.S. He’s been on a tour called “One Beat,” a cultural exchange set of concerts designed by the U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe.
