Wednesday market

The Vashon Farmers Market will be open in the Village Green from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Farmers will be selling Island-grown vegetables and fruits from five different farms, Island artisans will be selling handmade shopping bags and lavender goods, and Jennifer Johnson, a licensed massage practitioner, will be giving 15-minute massages.

Vashon Park District’s Tunes @ Noon will provide music from noon to 3 p.m.

VMCP open house

Vashon Maury Cooperative Preschool will host an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the lower level of the VFW Hall at 22100 Vashon Hwy. S.W.

Come by for snacks and meet teachers, parent educators and some of the co-op families.

Farmers market

The Vashon Farmers Market will be open in the Village Green from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30.

Farm-ers will be selling Island-grown or produced summer vegetables and fruits, milk, meats, eggs, cheese, wine, herbs, nursery plants and fresh-cut flowers. Tiny’s Organic will provide fruit from Eastern Washington. Island artisans will be sharpening knives, giving massages and selling soaps, cutting boards, jewelry, incense, cards, furniture from reused wood and more.

Sol Source will provide lunch specialties.

Master gardeners

The master gardener clinic will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, outside of True Value.

Master gardeners will be available to help answer gardening questions, including plant ideas with low- or no-water needs.

Stop by for gardening advice, plant disease identification, available resource materials and more.

Total Experience choir

Shade for the Children, which encourages people to make healthy lifestyle choices in the age of AIDS, will present The Total Experience Gospel Choir to raise funds for the Bailey-Boushay House, an AIDS hospice in Seattle. This 17th annual concert will be held at the Vashon High School Theater at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6; the doors will open at 6 p.m. for refreshments and friendship.

A free-will offering will be taken at the door.

English Faire

The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit will hold its annual English Faire from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. The cost is $6.

This is a community-wide event and includes fish and chips or vegetarian sausage, a croquet tournament, Renaissance jugglers, Celtic music and dancers and special games for children.

Dog and people walk

Vashon Island Pet Protectors’ (VIPP) Dog & People Walk will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 20, at Burton Acres Park

Library story time

The Vashon Library will host story times for young children again in September.

Toddler Story Time will meet from 10:40 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays Sept. 2 to Oct. 14. Kids ages 18 months to 3 years with an adult caregiver are welcome for 20 minutes of stories and songs just right for toddlers.

Preschool Story Times will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 2 to Oct. 14. Kids ages 3 to 5 are invited for 30 minutes of stories, songs and fun.

Lapsit Story Time will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 3 to Oct. 15.

Babies from newborn to 17 months and their caregivers can stop in for a 20-minute story time. No registration is required for any of the story times.
