The first two days of Cascadia Rising, the region’s earthquake disaster drill, have been full of activity, including contending with the challenges of a severely damaged island at Vashon Island Fire & Rescue, coordinating with King County and the National Guard — with 80 members of the guard on the island — and feeding hungry people in the IGA parking lot at lunch earlier today. Additionally, this morning the National Guard conducted a three-hour helicopter-loading training for members of Vashon’s Medical Reserve Corps and the Community Emergency Response Team.
