Several King County officials will host a public meeting Wednesday evening and provide information about a wide range of issues.

The meeting is one in a series officials are holding in unincorporated areas of the county, allowing residents to talk one-on-one with representatives of county departments and branches, hear from them and ask questions.

“This is a great chance to meet with your county officials, which is your local government on Vashon,” Alan Painter, the Community Service Area program manager, said last week.

The evening will include County Councilmember Joe McDermott, Deputy County Executive Fred Jarrett, Sheriff John Urquhart, Assessor John Wilson and Department of Transportation (DOT) Director Harold Taniguchi, as well as DOT representatives from the marine and roads divisions and Metro. Christie True, the director of the Department of Natural Resources and Parks, will be there, as will Bradley Clark, who is coordinating the updating of the Town Plan. Representatives from Seattle-King County Public Health and the Office of Emergency Management, which will be working with the island on its current health care challenges, will also attend.

The first 10 minutes of the evening will be an open house format, Painter said, with islanders able to speak individually with officials. Then the town hall portion of the meeting will begin, with brief presentations followed by a question and answer period.

“We hope to get a great turnout on the island,” Painter said. “There are lots of exciting things happening.”

The meeting will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at McMurray Middle School.
