Teen hangout: Drop by Vashon Library for snacks, arts and crafts, board games, role-playing games and Nintendo Switch games — all free and sponsored by Vashon Friends of the Library — from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. each Tuesday through August 12. This is intended for ages in grades 6-12.
Farming in community: Join the Vashon Island Growers Association from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 at Provo Farms, 20171 87th Ave SW, to connect with and learn from other island growers. All interested are welcome — farmers, backyard growers, and even casual and curious admirers. Come as you are, dirty overalls and all.
Burton speaker: Islander Terry Hershey will speak at Burton Community Church at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 13. All are welcome to come hear his reflections and share in his humor and wisdom. The church is located at 23905 Vashon Highway.
Musical guest: Folk musician Hans Peterson will lead worship at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 13, at Vashon Lutheran Church. All are welcome.
Food Bank tour: The Vashon Maury Community Food Bank will host a tour of its current site and future home at the Vashon United Methodist Church from 2-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday July 15. Meet at the current Food Bank at 10030 SW 210th St, behind the Sea Mar Clinic. Project expert and former Board President Mason Gerety will guide the tour. Bring water and sun protection. Health insurance: Miguel Urquiza, representative of King County Public Health, will help islanders sign up for health insurance, food stamps, and other servicse from 12:30-3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, inside Vashon Library. Ice cream social: The Vashon Heritage Museum will host its annual free ice cream social in the backyard at the museum from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 18. The event will include music from The Lazy Dog String Band, lawn games, and a whole lot of ice cream, courtesy of IGA. A small donation is encouraged.
Kizoku Ishiki Obon: This celebration of belonging will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, at Vashon Cemetery. It is a free cultural event that will include dance, art displays, walking tours, picnicking, performances and more. Learn more at vashoncemetery.org and mukaifarmandgarden.org.
Farmers Market: The Vashon Island Growers Association’s Farmers Market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday at the Village Green through September 27. Visit vigavashon.org/market.
Free community dinners: Held Mondays through Fridays from 5-5:30 p.m. at the Vashon Presbyterian Church (17708 Vashon Highway SW) by the Interfaith Council to Prevent Homelessness.

Enjoy a hot lunch at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the following activities throughout the week at the Vashon Senior Center, 10004 SW Bank Road:
Museum Tour: At 1 p.m. Friday, July 11, Gretta Stimson, director of Vashon Heritage Museum, will lead a tour of the current exhibit, An Island Revered: Honor and Friendship the sx̌wəbabš and Sherman Family Collection. Meet at the Senior Center to walk to the museum.
Threshold Choir: This local choir will sing individualized songs from 2-3 p.m. Friday, June 11, to those who request to receive a “song bath” at the Senior Center.
Crafts: Join Vashon Librarian Sam Harris for fun strawberry-themed games in the Memorial Garden, weather permitting, at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 14. There will be prizes for winners.
Death Café: Meets 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session, with an objective to increase awareness of death and help people make the most of their finite lives.
