The island will host three free Thanksgiving dinners for anyone in the community who would like to gather with others to share the holiday. The first of the dinners will be Wednesday evening and the other two on Thanksgiving day.

Volunteers at the free Wednesday night dinners will serve a Thanksgiving meal the evening before the holiday. Dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Church of the Holy Spirit.

On Thanksgiving day, a dinner at the Vashon Eagles will begin at about 3:30 p.m. at the club house. Side dishes and donations of money to offset the cost of the meal are welcome but not necessary. The event takes place every year and draws between 60 and 80 people, according to the Eagles.

The Interfaith Council to Prevent Homelessness will also host a dinner that day, with music, games and food. Sooze Bloom de-

Leon Grossman and Benjamin Grossman, volunteers with the free community meals program, will host the event and do the cooking.

Harmon Arroyo, the community meals coordinator, has high praise for their culinary skills.

“They never do anything halfway, these folks,” he said.

The dinner will include turkey, ham  stuffed kabocha squash. a wide variety of side dishes and dessert. Doors to the Presbyterian Church will be open from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. for music, board games and visiting, and dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinners are open to all people — those who do not have the means to make their own dinners to those who would simply like to gather with others for the holiday.
