Lots of love for VCC at auction

After many years holding its annual Labor of Love auction online, Vashon Community Care brought the event to life Feb. 13 as the Open Space for Arts & Community transformed into a “Valentine wonderland” for the evening.

Organizer Verna Everitt, executive director of the Vashon Community Care Foundation, said the sold-out event “went off without a hitch” and netted some $60,000 for the center.

“The community really came together and understood this is a community care center,” she said.

Everitt is still focused on fundraising, though, as $550,000 must be raised this year to maintain VCC’s work. Already she is looking ahead to next year, when she plans to host a larger event.
