Memorial Day to be observed at Vashon Cemetery

Memorial Day will be observed at 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, in a solemn ceremony at Vashon Cemetery, honoring the nation’s fallen veterans.

Memorial Day will be observed at 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, in a solemn ceremony at Vashon Cemetery, honoring Vashon’s and the nation’s fallen veterans.

The observance, presented by the Vashon Veterans Association, will include the participation of Vashon Island Fire & Rescue, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Hero Quilts, Vashon Scouts, the Eagles, the Masons, and other organizations joining together for the day.

Vashon’s Scout Troupe 294 will make preparations for the ceremony, fulfilling its yearly duty to place small American flags on the final resting places of the more than 600 veterans who are buried at Vashon Cemetery.

The color guard, led by Commander John Burke, of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War, will begin the ceremony. Islander Eva Cain will sing the national anthem.

All are welcome to attend and pay tribute to those who gave all for their country.
