Vashon boys soccer gets another shot at Overlake after defeating Rochester 3-1 in the opening round of the 1A State Soccer Tournament on Wednesday.

The Pirates travel to Redmond Saturday for a noon kickoff against the Owls, the team that beat Vashon 3-1 in Tri-District play last Friday. The winner of that quarter-final game advances to the State semi-finals and the loser’s season is over.

Ezra Koenig opened the scoring against Rochester in the 21st minute with an assist from Victor Moreira. Ten minutes later Moreira added an unassisted goal. Fernando Aguilar answered two minutes later with an unassisted goal for the Warriors.

The score remained at 2-1 until the 74th minute when Moreira worked the ball into the penalty area and past the entire Warrior defense for a shot to the far post to put the game out of reach for the Pirates.
