School district needs volunteers to write voters’ pamphlet statements

The Vashon Island School District is in need of volunteers to compose “pro” and “con” statements for its Educational Programs and Operation replacement levy that will be on the King County ballot for the February 13, 2018 special election. The statements will appear in the King County voters’ pamphlet.

Each side may have a committee of up to three people. Statements are due by Tuesday, Dec. 19, and rebuttal statements by Thursday, Dec. 21.

The district is looking to renew its operating levy, which it routinely does every four years. The levy funds such things as special education, bus transportation, staff professional development, paraprofessionals, counseling support and administrative staff, sports and extracurricular programs, grounds keeping, substitute teachers and various enrichment programs, such as art, music and Advanced Placement courses.

Currently the levy totals $4,343,912. The proposed levy will increase by about 5 percent each year for the next four years.

Anyone interested in serving on either the “pro” or “con” committees should send an email to Jodi Burwell at jburwell@vashonsd.org
