Three bands throw a big bash for Vashon Theatre

A group of Island musicians have pooled their talents to help Vashon Theatre recover from a recent burglary.

The musicians — members of the bands Rumor Has It, Poultry in Motion and Waterlogged — will host a community dance from 7:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 13, at the VFW Hall.

Roger Taylor, who sings and plays guitar with two of the groups, said the idea for the dance came together quickly.

“After the theater was robbed, we all felt a sense of loss — of the Island losing its ‘nothing like that ever happens on Vashon’ status,” Taylor said. “A few of us, one from each band as it turned out, had the same idea spontaneously, and discovered it one night when we were talking about rehearsal schedules.”

Taylor added that many other community members have also collaborated to help make the evening possible.

“The spirit of the event is the Island letting the theater (owners) know how much we love them — will you be my Valentine? — that sort of thing,” he said.

Taylor said he hopes to raise between $500 and $1,000 at the dance, enough to augment funds that have already been raised for the theater at other events.

“We’re hoping to raise the rest of what they need to replace the digital projector that was stolen,” Taylor said.

The suggested donation for the dance is $10, and food and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available at the event.

Music will range from the “stringband rock” of Rumor Has It, which takes the stage at 7:30 p.m., to Poultry in Motion’s country rock and Cajun sounds, which will start at 9:15 p.m. Waterlogged will play rock music at 10:45 p.m.
