Two elementary school principals have emerged as finalists in the search to find a replacement for outgoing principal Kate Beahr, who’s stepping down from her role helming Chautauqua Elementary School in June.

The public is invited to meet the candidates at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at Chautauqua’s second-floor activity area.

Jacque Crisman, one of the finalists, has been the principal of Evergreen Elementary School in Lakebay, 25 miles southwest of Gig Harbor on the Kitsap Peninsula, for the past 10 years. Prior to that, she worked for 18 years as an elementary classroom teacher and three years as an adjunct instructor at Central Washington University. Evergreen, in the Peninsula School District, serves 250 students, about half the size of Chautauqua; nearly three-quarters of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

The other finalist, Jody Metzger, is the principal of Neely-O’Brien Elementary School in the Kent School District, where she has worked since 2008. The student population there numbers 500, with 65 percent of the students on free or reduced-price lunches. Prior to that, Metzger worked for four years as principal of Friday Harbor Elementary School on San Juan Island. She has also taught music at an elementary school and worked as a choir director in at the middle and high school level.

Metzger will be available to meet with parents and other community members at 3:45 p.m.; Crisman will meet with the community at 4:30 p.m. The position pays $83,272 to $96,891.
