King County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating two separate burglaries that occurred on Sept. 7: One at Mom’s Deli in the early morning hours and another at the Chevron gas station late that night.

According to sheriff’s logs, a deputy was dispatched to the deli around 1:40 a.m. after a motion detector inside the business was tripped. The deputy checked the outside of the deli and it “appeared to be secure,” the logs report. The deputy believed the alarm to be a false alarm and left. Later, around 4:20 a.m., the alarm was once again set off. The deputy arrived and determined that the business had been broken into by someone who entered through the second-story window.

Sheriff’s officials said that deputies believe the suspect had come in through the window with an extending stepladder and then climbed down to the deli floor using a knotted rope. Authorities are unsure whether the suspect stole anything, and the only damage done to the store was a broken window.

Roughly 19 hours later, around 11:55 p.m. Monday, another burglary was reported at the Chevron gas station in town. A woman reportedly pushed the Plexiglass window out of its frame at the convenience store and stole cigarettes and alcohol. Sheriff’s report logs show that deputies reviewed surveillance footage and saw the woman jump the fence near the generator, push out the glass and steal the items. The woman reportedly had a towel held over her face during the crime.

It is not known if the two burglaries are related.
