Bethany Weir and Richard Cromwell announce their engagement. Parents of the couple are Colleen and Dan Weir of Moorhead, Minn., and Sharon and Cecil Cromwell of Vashon.

Weir graduated from Calvin College and is employed by the Cispus Learning Center in Randle, Wash. Cromwell is employed by Cispus Americorps in Randle.

An Aug. 16, 2008, wedding is planned at Triumph Lutheran Brethren in Moorhead, Minn.

Jessie Linnell

Jessie Dee Linnell, a 2008 graduate of Vashon High School, was presented the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award at the school’s awards ceremony by high school counselor Linda Mather.

“Jessie Linnell fits the profile laid down through the years by Daughters of the American Revolution,” said teacher James Dorsey in a recommendation. “She is dedicated to her community and to our country. I’ve been a witness to her tenacity and compassion since ninth-grade. It continues to grow as she matures.”

Each year, an outstanding senior is chosen from participating high schools. The person who best demonstrates the qualities of a good citizen by dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in the home, school, church and community is chosen for the good citizen award.

The Elizabeth Bixby chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution originated on Vashon and continues to select its good citizen candidates from Vashon High School, according to Gloria Swanson, chapter chair.

Linnell’s plans include attending PIMA Medical Institute to become a dental assistant.

Shayna Aghabeigi of Vashon was named to the dean’s list at Eastern Washington University for the spring 2008 quarter. She had to earn a 3.5 GPA or better for the quarter to receive the honor.

Andrea Kaleena Garabedian graduated from the University of Washington in June 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.

William Green

William Nathan Green graduated from the University of Washington in June 2008 with a double bachelor of arts degree in geography and comparative history of ideas.

Jacob Kneeshaw

Jacob Michael Kneeshaw graduated from the University of Washington in June 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in business administration (entrepreneurship).

Matthew McEnany

Matthew Ryan McEnany graduated from the University of Washington in June 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in Japanese — international studies.

Christopher Patrick O’Brien graduated from the University of Washington in June 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in economics.

Sabrina Pieterick

Sabrina Michele Pieterick graduated from the University of Washington in June 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in business administration (finance).

Tyler Swain

Tyler Swain graduated cum laude from Western Washington University in June 2008 with a bachelor of science degree in industrial design and a minor in business administration.

Swain is the son of David and Anna Swain and brother to Erin and Hilary.

Andrew Ahlstedt Vornbrock graduated from the University of Washington in June 2008 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography.

Mia Weber

Mia Weber, daughter of Eric Weber and Clare Dohna, was named to the dean’s list at Saint Michael’s College for the spring 2008 semester.

Weber is a first-year journalism and mass communication major at the Vermont college. Weber earned a GPA of 3.4 or better to be included on the dean’s list.

John Zablan

John Thomas Zablan was named to the dean’s list at Eastern Washington University for the spring 2008 quarter. He earned a 3.5 GPA or better for the quarter to receive the honor.
