Jingle Bell Run

The Vashon Running Club’s annual Jingle Bell fun run/walk returns to downtown Vashon at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, in the lot next to Recess Lab and Voice of Vashon. The short 2.5-mile fun run/walk is entirely free and also open to furry friends and strollers. There will be music and hot cider.

Holiday Party at Snapdragon

Celebrate the holidays at Snapdragon 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, with live music from “The Black Cat Carolers” and “The Secret Agents,” a local American surf rock band. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also make a special appearance, as well as Krampus.

Southern Gumbo Fundraiser

Camp Sealth and Thyme Well Spent are partnering to bring the Southern Gumbo Fundraiser to raise funds as part of the Campfire Equity Fund to help send children to summer camp. Vegan, chicken and sausage and seafood gumbo options are offered. Orders can be placed at bit.ly/3IEL58Q and will be available for pickup from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at Vashon Lutheran Church.

Vashon Presbyterian Church Christmas Caroling

Gather around the big fir tree by Vashon Presbyterian Church, decorated in beautiful lights, at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, for Christmas caroling under the tree.

There will also be a fire pit on the front lawn of the church to keep warm. All islanders are invited to join in the sing-along.

Celebrate the holidays at Vashon Theatre

Partake in two of Vashon’s classic holiday traditions, with a free screening of the classic holiday movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19. Then head back to the theater at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, for a free community sing-a-long. The evening begins with a showing of the class animated TV special, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” and singing begins at 6 p.m. Also, don’t forget to see the blockbuster new version of “West Side Story,” now playing at the theater. Mukai Farm & Garden Cooking Demonstration

Stop by Mukai Farm & Garden from 1 to 4 pm Sunday, Dec. 19, for a Japanese cooking demonstration of sushi and onigiri. The historic site also features a display of lights on the property for the community to enjoy throughout the holiday season.

Lutheran Church offers drive-up caroling

Vashon Lutheran Church will offer a drive-up caroling event from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec.24. Islanders can drive up the church’s driveway, at 18623 Vashon Hwy. SW, and join in singing carols and listening to readings of the Christmas story. Leaders of songs and readers will be masked and socially distanced while outdoors. Lyrics to the carols will be available. The church will also be open from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for those wishing to go in for quiet meditation time, and pastor Joe Kutzke will safely serve Communion to those who want it. Masks are required indoors.
