Burdell Hollis

A grieving prayer for the family & friends of

Burdell Hollis who died on

Sunday, June 8 after a long illness, and recognition of how Burdell Hollis helped

to make this island a better place to live and raise our families.

Grieving prayers are asked for Myrna

Hollis, Burdell’s wife, and all family members, the members of Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW Post 2826, the American Legion Post 159, the Vashon Eagles #3144, the students, teachers and administrators of our schools, the members of Boy Scout Troop 294 and the individual persons who Burdell helped.

Burdell Hollis majored in History at the University of Washington and was a

Manufacturers’ Representative and worked in Quality Control at various businesses in the Seattle area.

He was a loving husband and father.

I, Olde John Croan, had the opportunity to discuss WWII with Burdell when

we went to Washington State VFW Conventions.

Burdell answered every question that I had. He was and is the best teacher

and friend that I ever had.

Burdell encouraged Vashon Island students to participate in national and Washington State Youth Essay Contests that were sponsored by the VFW. The students received significant scholarships and recognition that helped them to improve their writing and speaking skills which better prepared them for the job markets and to be the persons that they are capable of being. Burdell also helped many adults receive training to increase their income. Burdell did this to help others, without any benefit to himself, except for the spoken gratitude of those whom he helped. Burdell drove me to VFW meetings at night when driving at night became a problem for me and he helped many other seniors who needed assistance. Burdell was and is loved and respected for being the patriot that he was and is and for helping so many. Myrna Hollis and the Hollis family helped Burdell, in so many ways, to be the person that he was and is.

May we all meet in Heaven as grateful servants of our God.
