Charles Wayne Mayo

Charles (Charlie) Wayne Mayo, age 79, died August 24, 2018, of bone cancer in Wellton, Arizona. He was an avid outdoors man and loved to camp, fish and hunt. Born in Bisbee, Arizona, June 30, 1939, to Wayne and Katherine Mayo, the family moved to and lived in the Bay Area of California. He served in the Army for two years and when he returned, he attended barber school and met Claudia Jean Ann Moore. They were married April 16, 1962.They lived in the Bay Area until the summer of 1972 when the family moved to Orland, California, and started a seven-acre farm and he worked in Chico, California, as a janitor for Chico State College. In 1978 the family moved to Vashon Island, Washington. He worked for Beall’s Green House for about a year before he began working for the Washington State Ferry System.

He remarried on January 4th, 1996, to Candy Young-Mayo in Winnemucca, Nevada, and he retired from the State Ferry System in 1999. While married, they lived on Vashon Island, Fairfield, Washington, and settled in Arizona on September 24th, 2001. Both loved the adventure of travel and visiting friends and family.

Charles is survived by his sister Barbara Elease Mayo, his wife Candy Young-Mayo, his daughter Dorothy and her husband Ricky Zevenbergen, his son Michael and wife Dawn Mayo and his son James Mayo. He also had two nieces, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and potluck will be held at the Eagles Club #3144, on Vashon Island, Washington, September 29, 2018, from 1 to 3 pm. Please bring a fond memory and a dish to share.
