Eric Joseph Green

Eric was kind, empathetic, caring, big-hearted, funny, a great big brother, devoted son, and loving spouse.

Eric Joseph Green passed away unexpectedly onFebruary 14, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He left this earth too soon, but he had a memorable impact on all those who knew and loved him.

Eric was born in West Seattle and grew up on Vashon Island. As a life-long fifth generation islander, he carved out a wonderful life. He had an idyllic childhood spending time at KVI beach, sailing on Quartermaster Harbor on his Laser, riding his bike and enjoying the comradery of life-long friends, and creating lovely memories with his family, and his wife of 25 years.

Eric had many passions, and these led to great adventures throughout his life. He was a commercial fisherman and spent many summers on the family fishing boat, the Janet G, in Southeast Alaska. His adventures as a fisherman gave him a lifetime of wonderful stories that he loved to share, especially the stories of his Grandpa Joe and his Uncle Phil. Eric met the love of his life, Laurie, in Petersburg, AK on the FV Delight in July 1984.

Being on the water was one of Eric’s firstloves. He had the opportunity to make two Pacific crossings to Hawaii. Sailing across the Pacific gave him an appreciation for our vast universe and a keen sense for all things connected to the heavens. Eric also loved flying and pursued his private pilot’s license and had a lifelong interest in all things related to aviation, as well as being a huge Star Trek fan.

Eric was a part of the Williams Heating team and his customers and colleagues were of first concern. His colleagues were family to him, and they shared a profound bond. His customers were a priority and he never hesitated to leave for a call to ensure they received the best service and care.

The written word was important to Eric, and he enjoyed reading books that spanned all periods of history. He also had an amazing ability to remember and quote lines from movies, a favorite being Caddyshack. His love of all pork products was well known to family and friends.

Eric has been described as kind, empathetic, caring, sensitive, a rock, big hearted, funny, generous, a connoisseur of food, having an ability to connect with all people, and a wonderfully protective big brother, devoted son and loving husband.

His family has been touched by the outpouring of love and by the gracious words that have been shared during this time of grief. His unexpected death has left all of those who loved him at a loss and broken hearted.

Until we meet again, ourjourney is going to be a bit quieter and a bit lonelier without our beloved Eric.

Eric is survived by his wife Laurie, parents Joe and Suzy Green, sister Carol Green, brother-in-law Mike Fladhus, and his extended family.
