Hazel Tatum

Hazel Lorraine Kelley Tatum died Feb. 2, 2005, at the Vashon Community Care Center, where she had lived for the past eight years. She was 95 years old.

Mrs. Tatum was born Feb. 27, 1909, to Rosa Belle Ferguson Kelley and Albert Franklin Kelley in Callaway, Neb.

She had a long, fulfilling life as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was called “Nana Hazel.” She also was a teacher, worked in sales and was an office worker.

She was involved as a Jehovah’s Witness since the late 1970s and enjoyed her remaining years witnessing about her faith with many of her friends.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, organ music, and traveling.

She and her husband lived in Nebraska, California and Washington and both came from large families.

Her family appreciates the care she received at VCCC.

Her youngest daughter, Sharon Moyer, died in 1985 as did her husband Quentin Tatum.

Survivors include one daughter, Joy Winters, and her husband Herschal, of Vashon, a sister Alice Donlan of California, five grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held earlier.
