Nancy Joan (Bush) Wickberg

Nancy Joan Bush Wickberg

April 5, 1926 – November 2, 2013

Nancy died peacefully at home with her husband Richard by her side. Nancy was born in Detroit Lakes MN to Jack and Alta Bush. She grew up in Detroit Lakes moving to Minneapolis MN as a teenager. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Associates Arts. In 1949 she married Richard Wickberg with whom she had four children.

The family moved to Seattle in 1961 settling in Laurelhurst neighborhood. Nancy provided a warm home that all the neighborhood kids liked to play. In 1975 after a trip to Vashon with Richard for a sales call, they informed the family they were moving to Vashon Island. They bought an old farm house known as the Tingly house. Nancy loved the home very much. Years later Nancy successfully had the home listed as a Historical Site, something she was very proud of.

Through her life she volunteered for many charities and served on many of their boards. On Vashon she volunteered and served on the board at Grannies Attic and Mukai House.

Nancy was a wonderful, loving, caring and wife, mother and friend. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Richard; sons Richard and wife Maria of Spokane, David and Connie of Seattle and daughters Nancy and husband Scott Dinsmore and Alta and Rob Costew of Vashon, sister-in-law Arlene Bush, Bloomington MN, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and her six nieces.

Many on Vashon knew her as the sweet little lady with a smile, kind words and glint in her eye. If you came to her home you were taken care of with good food, spirit and great conversation. Many considered her as “Mom”.

In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting donation be made in Nancy’s name to Highline Hospice Services or Daystar Retirement Village. The family will be holding a private memorial.
