LETTER: Country’s racist history is easily seen, equity policy is needed

I am responding to Joe Yarkin’s letter in which he appears to disagree with SURJ’s assertion that “our country was founded on racism and is largely a white supremacist nation” (“Racial equality policy seems counterproductive,” Oct. 25).

One only has to go to our constitution to find that slaves were counted as three-fifths of a human being, to our current president’s policies, to police actions, to stories of Vashon students and parents of color to discover that racism was a cornerstone of this country’s foundation and is alive and well.
