LETTER: Evidence of golfing at Maury marine park is troubling

Golfers have taken to teeing off on the beach overlook at Docton Forest. The spot or make-shift, “tee” is easily recognized by park users. There is a bench seat and a plaque that reads, “We hope you will sit down and enjoy the view: Sheila and Wes Borden”. Well, golfers are also enjoying the view and a little more. Over that past year I frequently find golf balls on the trail below the bench seat. I spoke with one King County Park employee who reports having collected around 200 golf balls in the same area in the past year. I encountered another hiker this morning that has an additional seven balls from the trail in her collection. It doesn’t take much imagination to anticipate a collision between a golf ball, a horse, a person, or a dog in the near future. It would be great if the person or persons hitting golf balls off the promontory would shift their activity to the driving range at the County Club or another less hazardous venue. Or, the County can take action by putting up a “ no golfing” sign next the no-paintball, no motorized vehicle and no hunting signs.
