Unfortuantely, our school board has lost credibility. Not long ago, islanders passed quite a large $49.6 million school bond with the clear understanding that Building A was not to be demolished. Our school board voted and the building was demolished.
I did not know that a school board, five people, had the legal authority to override the will of “we the people.” In a democracy that cuts to the very foundation of who we are, our school board has forgotten who pays the bills.
I suspect it will be a long, long time before islanders forget and pass another bond or levy.
