Equestrians take to the trails in competitive ride

Twenty-nine island riders successfully completed the third annual Competitive Trail Ride on Sept 7.

Twenty-nine island riders successfully completed the third annual Competitive Trail Ride on Sept 7.

All but three riders chose to ride the full 12 miles through forests and along lanes between Paradise Ridge Park and Island Center Forest.  Obstacles such as the “Vashon sidewalk” (a stretch of Singer Road lined with signboards) and “Windermere waterfront froperty” tested the obedience and versatility of horse and rider.

There were four divisions in all,with winners as follows:

Novice (5 miles):
1st – Ava Lorentzen
2nd – Chiara Heimbeck
3rd – Julia Ellison

Junior Division:
1st – McKenna Anderson
2nd – Grace Leonard
3rd (tie) – Emily Kruly
3rd (tie) – Lauren Bredice

Adult (over 18) Division:
1st – Rheagan Sparks (her horse, Oliver, won the prize for Best Conditioned Equine)
2nd – Sara Barry
3rd – Melissa Rampe
4th – Kate Shook
5th – Barb Wood
6th – Elizabeth Nye
7th – Jessica Harper
8th – Randee Blackstone

Social Security Division (horse plus rider age = 60+, or any horse over 20):
