On Sept. 27, the team traveled to play Cascade Christian on a beautiful afternoon at Clarks Creek Park, in Puyallup, and came back with a win of four matches to one.

The most hotly contested of these was the number one singles match in which Nick Zuckerman (VHS) and Nick Jung (CC) split sets in a dramatic fashion and played a third-set tiebreaker.

In Junior Varsity (JV) play, Lennon Hinz and Danny Boyle took a win, as did Leo Neidinger and Alwyn Stamat.

On Oct. 4, the team took on Eatonville High School, at home, in a meet that was well-attended by Vashon High School (VHS) supporters. The crowd witnessed the Pirates make quick of the meet, with a 4-1 victory.

A day later, on Oct. 5, the Pirates hosted another home meet, this time again Life Christian Academy’s undefeated squad.

This meet was very competitive, with three of the matches being decided by a tiebreaker.

The Pirates eventually fell two matches to Life Christian’s three.

Pirate travel continued on Oct. 7, with a meet against Annie Wright School.

The day started with a mixup of venues but soon got on track, with the meet taking place at the Jupiter Tennis Center in Fife.

Again, VHS took the meet 4-1. The doubles match was contested between the VHS #1 team and AWS’s #1 singles player, who was paired with the tallest player in the league.

Some of the ball strikes sounded like gunfire, as there was a lot of power on display from both teams.

In JV play, Danny Boyle and Leo Neidinger traveled, but no opponents were available.

Tennis basics: Varsity matches are the best of three sets. Two singles and three doubles matches are played. The first two sets are the best of six matches, winning by two. If tied at six games each, a 7-point tiebreaker is played to a win of two points. The third set, if needed, is a 10-point tiebreaker, to a win by two points).

The meet is determined by the best of five matches to determine League win.

When reporting scores, the first number is VHS games, the second is the opposing teams.

The game score is represented with a ( – ) and tiebreakers with a ( / ).
