The Vashon High School boys’ lacrosse team ended its season last week after a loss in the playoffs to powerhouse Juanita High School.

Olympic division champions for the second year in a row, Vashon hosted Juanita in the first round of the playoffs, looking to move forward in the tournament. Vashon played inspired lacrosse and took an early 3-1 lead in the game after two goals by Ezra Ende and a goal by Winter Krimmert.

Unfortunately for Vashon, Juanita had numbers on its side, and the Vashon club struggled to match the visiting team’s fresh legs. Juanita evened the score and extended its lead with the first half ending 6-3 in favor of the visitors. After exchanging goals for much of the second half, Vashon made a late fourth-quarter run, closing the gap to two goals. Juanita weathered Vashon’s attack and added two tallies to end the game 14-10.

Despite the early playoff loss, Vashon had an extremely successful season, finishing 12-3 in the regular season and clinching the top place in the Olympic conference for the second year in a row.

Additionally, four players from Vashon received all-conference honors. Seniors Chance Krimmert, Winter Krimmert and Ezra Ende all were awarded First Team all conference honors, while sophomore Dawit Tuller-Ross was voted Second Team all conference.

Head coach Daniel Macca noted his pride in the team’s accomplishments this season.

“I am extremely pleased with the season as a whole and the development of our players. We started the season with high aspirations that at the time seemed almost unrealistic. This group of players worked incredibly hard to improve, and their effort shows in our results,” he said.  “Understand that having four players receive all-conference honors represents a quarter of our team. That’s almost unheard of. We had an extremely small team in terms of numbers, yet we not only competed all season with larger teams, we defeated nearly all of them. There wasn’t a game this season that we weren’t competitive or that we didn’t have a chance to win.”

Macca added that Vashon Lacrosse would like to thank outgoing board President Charlie Krimmert and Vice President Laura Neuman for their hard work.

The board will name new officers in June and is looking to add members. Anyone interested in supporting youth lacrosse on the island is encouraged to contact Vashon Lacrosse club through its website, vashonlacrosse.net.
