After an exciting 3-1 victory over Seattle Christian on Thursday, April 14, the Vashon High School soccer team moved into sole possession of first place in the Nisqually league and is well positioned for the upcoming playoffs. 

It was the second win last week for the team, which also defeated Chimacum in a shutout at an away game on Tuesday, April 12. 

After an early breakaway in the first few minutes of last Thursay’s game, Seattle Christian snuck one through defenders to score the first goal, leading 1-0. 

Vashon applied pressure back, and a cross from Paal Nilssen resulted in a goal for the Pirates, bringing the score to a tie. 

Freshman goalie Philip Vandevanter did an outstanding job the rest of the game, keeping all balls out of the net. 

In the second half, solid play led by seniors Jackson McFall and Nick Fox-Edele allowed for two more spectacular goals by Nick Gass and Tyler Heit.  

The 3-1 victory brought the Pirates into first place in the league, with a record of six wins, one loss and one tie.

Yesterday they went up against Orting in an away game, and tonight they will play rival Charles Wright in a home game at 6 p.m.
