Registration for the 2017 Bill Burby Inspirational 5K/10K Runs and 5K Walk is now open.

The annual summer event is now in its 37th year and, as it always has before, will take place during Strawberry Festival weekend, Saturday, July 22. The Burby is a fun run and costumes are encouraged.

“Past years racers have donned strawberry costumes or Audrey Hepburn dresses and pearls. Use your imagination — it’s a fun run,” organizer Daniel Briggs said.

The race is named after a beloved teacher and coach at Vashon Island High School who was an inspiration to many. The race honors his dedication to island youth sports and healthy life choices. Race registration fees help support the high school’s athletic teams and provide the Bill Burby Wellness Scholarship, which is awarded each year to a VHS senior who has most clearly demonstrated a healthy lifestyle.

Entry fees are $25 ($35 on the day of the race) for adults and $12.50 ($25 on the day of the race) for children 18 and under. Those who pre-register are guaranteed a race T-shirt.
