Scene and Heard: Throwing it out there

Around a dozen kids took aim sharpening their throwing for the upcoming 2024 baseball season.

Around a dozen kids took aim on Sunday, Feb. 11, sharpening their throwing for the upcoming 2024 baseball season at a free clinic held by Vashon Youth Baseball and Softball (VYBS) at the Vashon High School gym.

VYBS, a member of Pony Baseball and Softball, has served island youth for years with programs that include free throwing and hitting clinics that welcome youngsters to the sport and help them build basic skills.

Lindsey Gay, a VYBS board member, a coach, and the director of the VYBS’s Pinto League, said the 2024 season will officially start April 1.

There is no cost for the clinics.

There will be another free-throwing clinic at the high school from 12-2 p.m. on Feb 25. On March 3, 10, 17, and 24, VYBS will host hitting clinics in the covered play area at Chautauqua Elementary School. Times and more info for those hitting clinics will be forthcoming.
