Soggy weather cancels baseball, softball games over the weekend

Due to the whims of Mother Nature and the vagaries of Pacific Northwest weather conditions in March, the Vashon High School Pirate baseball and softball teams were kept off the fields last week.

The Pirate baseball team was scheduled to play North Kitsap High School on Friday, March 11, followed by a two-game jamboree at Spanaway Lake High School on Saturday. Both events were cancelled as outfields resembled boggy marshlands and infields turned into sandy Jello. The junior varsity teams were also kept off the field, missing competition on Friday and Saturday as well.

This week, VHS’ varsity baseball was to have played University Prep on Tuesday, March 15, with the results after press time.

The JV team, coached by Cliff Simpson, was scheduled to play their home opener on Tuesday against Seattle Lutheran. If the weather cooperates, the Pirates will play at home on Friday, March 18, taking on Cascade Christian at 4 p.m.

The girls’ softball teams were to have played Cedar Park Christian in their first game of the season at the campus in Bothell on Monday, March 14. The Pirates softball team should have also had a home game on Tuesday, March 15, against Seattle Lutheran. The team makes the long trek to Darrington with the JV boys’ team on Friday, March 18.

While no one is holding their breath, hopes are high that the teams will actually get at least one game in this week.
