The Vashon High School baseball team faced Bellevue Christian twice last week and pulled off two big wins, beating the Vikings 9-0 and 9-3.

A new entry in the Nisqually League this year, the Vikings visited Vashon on Tuesday, April 2, to battle it out with the Pirates.

Josh Myer was on the hill for Vashon and continued a run of excellent outings from the Pirate pitching staff. Myer threw a complete game shutout, allowing only one hit and one walk. He struck out 12 batters.

Myer was in complete control from the first pitch until the final out. The Pirate offense supported the fine pitching effort, scoring nine runs as a result of eight hits. The offense was also aided by eight base on balls.

Vashon opened the scoring with three runs in the first. They added single runs in the third and fourth innings and rounded out the scoring with four runs in the sixth.

Myer led the hitting attack, going two for three with two singles. Clyde Pruett added a double, and Zach Drape, Kelly Sullivan, Ryan Bernheisel, Sam Schoenberg and Colton Alberthal all had singles.

The defense was solid again with only two errors.

Line score: Vashon 9 runs, 8 hits, 2 errors, Bellevue Christian 0 runs, 1 hit, 4 errors.

Vashon played the Vikings again in the rain last Thursday at Bellevue Christian and defeated them again, 9-3.

Good Pirate pitching was on display once again in this game. Ezra Lacina was on the bump for Vashon and pitched a two-hit complete game. He struck out seven and gave up two earned runs (due to some control issues which led to eight base on balls).

The Pirates never trailed after scoring one run in the first on an RBI single by Kelly Sullivan. Vashon  piled on two more runs in the top of the second.

A single by Colton Alberthal ignited the offense, bringing home Sam Schoenberg. That was followed up by a Josh Myer single, plating Alberthal.

The Pirates scored four runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Lacina, a two-run double by Sullivan and a ground-out by Clyde Pruett. The Pirates pushed across one run in both the fifth inning and the seventh. In the fifth, they scored on a fielder’s choice, bringing home Alberthal.

Myer paced Vashon at the plate. He went three for five, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the second and fifth innings and tripled in the seventh inning.

Alberthal was two for four with two singles while Lacina and Sullivan both went two for five. Schoenberg and Ryan Bernheisel each added a single to the hit total.

Line score: Vashon 9 runs, 11 hits, 2 errors, Bellevue Christian 3 runs, 2 hits, 2 errors.

The Pirates have improved their league record to 6-3 and are slowing moving up in the standings.
