Vashon club teams celebrate soccer titles at Tacoma Stars game

Two Vashon boys club soccer teams captured South Sound United League Division 4 titles this fall and were recognized Jan. 11 at a Tacoma Stars game at ShoWare Arena in Kent.

The Vashon Kings, an under-14 team of seventh- and eighth-graders, finished the 12-game season 11-1-0, scoring 61 goals and allowing 10. The Kings are coached by Nick Keenan, Andy Casey and Randy Winjum.

The Vashon Wiggly Worms, an under-13 team of primarily sixth- and seventh-graders, also claimed the Division 4 championship, posting a 10-1-1 record with 61 goals scored and eight allowed.

Coach Megan Hirsh was joined this season by Jeff Cohen, Dan Dizazzo, Sang “Zanu” Mendy, Josh Logan and James Kellogg.

Many players from both teams also compete for McMurray Middle School.
