Vashon football wraps season with tough loss to Bellevue Christian

Thanks go out to the friends and families who made the trek for the final game of the season.

Vashon ended their season on Saturday night, Nov. 4, with a 58-0 loss to Bellevue Christian at the Sammamish High School stadium. The Pirates (1-7) entered the final league game looking for their second victory of the season. Bellevue Christian (2-7) came into the game with a win over East Jefferson last weekend.

Vashon was missing starting quarterback Chase Bradrick, who had a high ankle sprain. Backup quarterback Daniel Shannon was ineligible for the game, leaving the Pirates without a quarterback. Tight end Sawyer Ranney was called into the starting role on Friday night against the Vikings.

Bellevue Christian received the opening kickoff and opened the scoring with a long drive, taking a 6-0 lead at 7:13 of the first quarter. The Pirates went 3 and out on their first possession of the game. Bellevue led 12-0 after the 1st quarter and 44-0 at halftime. The Vikings added two more touchdowns in the second half of both teams’ season finale.

Top offensive play for Vashon came in the 2nd quarter when Ricky Rassmussen hauled in a 28 yard reception from Sawyer Ranney. Pirate co-defensive stars of the game were seniors Rowan Millett (7 tackles, quarterback hurry) and Sawyer Ranney (6 tackles, sack). RJ Miles added 5 tackles, and Ricky Rassmussen tallied an interception.

Thanks go out to the friends and families who made the trek for the final game of the season. Big thanks go to all of the seniors — fabulous men and great leaders. A great job was done by all the Pirate underclassmen this year. And as always — GO PIRATES.
