VHS Track & Field impresses at Bellevue Christian Invitational

Both the boys’ and girls’ teams achieved several personal best marks in their events.

The Vashon Island High School (VHS) Track & Field team made an impressive showing at the Bellevue Christian Invitational, which was held at Sammamish High School.

The girls placed second overall as a team, with 89.5 points out of 14 other schools. The boys’ team placed 8th out of 15 other schools with 35 points. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams achieved several personal best marks in their events.

Highlights included Senior George Murphy placing first in the boys’ pole vault, clearing 12 feet, which is a personal best.

Sophomore Alana Bass took first place in the 100-meter dash in 13.6 seconds out of 52 other competitors. Bass also placed first in the 200 meter dash out of 44 other competitors in 27.83 — a personal best — and claimed victory in the long jump with a mark of 14’10.

On Saturday, May 14, VHS will host the Nisqually League Championship meet, which is the West Central District meet qualifier. VHS gets this honor since it has the only track & field facility in the league that meets all the requirements to host a post-season meet.

On Wednesday, April 27, the Pirates will travel to East Jefferson High School in Port Townsend for their next competition.
