Lip- synchers will give their all for radio station

Dozens of islanders will take the stage at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, to not actually sing songs.

Rather, these local celeb and rock star wannabees will lip-sync their favorite over-the-top recordings, competing in Voice of Vashon’s Birthday Bash Lip & Synch Battle.

The battle is back by popular demand, organizers said, after its first installment packed the house last year. Duo, solo and group acts will compete, vying to win battles determined by audience applause. Air-guitarists, dancing, creative costumes and comedy are all encouraged in the contest, organizers said.

Arlette Moody will return as the event’s host, and the evening will begin with performances by the winners of VoV’s “The Voice” competition, Guido Perla and Maijah Sanson-Frey.

This year’s event will also include a raffle, with lucky winners taking home a case of premium wine, a “Weekend on the Rock” package featuring two nights at The Lodges on Vashon, fine dining at Gravy and The Hardware Store Restaurant, outdoor fun with Island Adventures, and a Mostly True Tour. One big winner will get two tickets to Elton John’s “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Concert” at the Tacoma Dome next September.

The show is for all ages until 11 p.m. and ages 21 and older after that.

Proceeds from the raffle and tickets, $10, will go to support Voice of Vashon, the island’s public radio and television station.
