Spring chamber concerts will feature graduating seniors

Vashon Maury Chamber Orchestra (VMCO) will celebrate spring with two concerts featuring Copland’s masterwork, “Appalachian Spring,” and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerti No. 5 and 6, with special performances by graduating high school seniors at the Concert for Kids, 11 a.m. Saturday, and at the evening concert, 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Both performances will be held at the Kay White Hall.

Several soloists will join VMCO, led by VMCO Music Directors Justin Cole and Karin Choo, for Bach’s Concerti, including Daniel Brandt on violin and viola; Thane Lewis on viola; Nancy Morgan on flute; and Lisa Lewis on harpsichord.

Graduating seniors will be showcased at both concerts, including Hugh Davis, Ethan Sedgemore and Rhea Enzian. Juliana Wright will dance to the shaker tune “Simple Gifts” in “Appalachian Spring.” Members of I Solisti di Vashon, a high school string orchestra group led by Gaye Detzer, will also join VMCO and play the psalm from Alan Hovhaness’ 1940 composition “Psalm and Fugue.”

Tickets are available at vashoncenterforthearts.org, Vashon Center for the Arts and Heron’s Nest Gallery.
