Students open for Seattle band in annual event

Sharing the Stage will host its 13th show at 8 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the Red Bike. Vashon students will open for the Seattle pop-punk band Tacocat.

The band formed in 2007 when Lelah Maupin (drums), Eric Randall (guitar), Bree McKenna (bass) and Emily Nokes (voice, tambourine) met and began playing the house party circuit.

The foursome quickly make a name for themselves with their energizing power pop and upbeat attitude. They describe their unabashed ‘90s revivalism as “feminist sci-fi and equal parts Kurt and Courtney.”

Sharing the Stage, the collective brainchild of Rob Bordner, Harris Levinson and Fred Strong, began in 2009, as a series that brings Seattle bands to Vashon, while giving student and youth musicians the opportunity to open for the groups and experience performing in a professional venue.

Student musicians audition for a spot in the show. Once accepted, they are mentored by a professional island musician. Students selected for the show have not yet been announced.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students, at the door.
