Vashon author talks about aquifers

Island author Mary Bruno will talk about the world’s aquifers as part of Vashon Center for the Arts’ Science Series at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Katherine L White Hall.

Aquifers supply freshwater to hundreds of millions of people and are being drained at an alarming rate. This talk will explore the nexus of the physical and human aquifers, hidden caches of an essential substance that are unique, fragile and increasingly threatened.

Bruno has a master’s degree in aquatic ecology and has worked for more than 25 years as a writer, editor and editorial director for print and online publications, including Newsweek, Seattle Weekly, and ABCNEWS.com. In 2015, she left her post as editor-in-chief of Crosscut to work on her book about aquifers.

Tickets are sold at VCA and vashoncenterforthearts.org.
