New restaurant to open Monday

Patty’s Place will be a breakfast and lunch destination with a global menu of offerings.

Chef Patty Freebourn, known by islanders for her tamales, is set to open her own restaurant on Monday across the street from the Chase bank.

Diners can stop in for breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon and for lunch from noon to 3 p.m. The restaurant will be open seven days a week.

Freebourn told The Beachcomber of her offerings in March, saying that there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Her breakfast will include eggs in a variety of styles, waffles made from her grandmother’s recipe, pancakes, toast and the tamale breakfast — huevos rancheros on a tamale in a sauce topped with cheese.

Her lunchtime menu consists of dishes that are a part of her background. She is half Korean and half Mexican, and she said she wants to share the best of her skills with Vashon, preparing meals such as Korean spare ribs for lunch with sticky rice and Asian salad, or a finely cut, grilled Japanese yakiniku-style steak.

Freebourn said they’ll be plenty more of her own recipes to savor, and that everything will be made from scratch.

On Monday, Freebourn said that everyone who brings an empty Patty’s Tamales bag will get a 10% discount.

“Come on in and enjoy delicious food,” she said.
