Islanders converged on Vashon High School Sunday for the first ever Earth Day Celebration which featured activities for all ages, speakers and information sessions about how to get involved on Vashon.

The event was organized by the newly formed Vashon Climate Action Group and islanders Judy Twedt, a doctoral student at the University of Washington’s Department of Atmospheric Sciences; Andy James, a musician and Chautauqua Elementary School teacher and Kevin Jones, who heads up the climate action group. Organizers hope to make the celebration an annual event.
