WSF to host open house for long-range plan

Washington State Ferries officials will be on Vashon next Tuesday for an open house regarding its long-range plan, which extends to 2040.

Ferry ridership is expected to grow by 30 percent system-wide between now and then, and Ferries spokespeople say they are working on a plan to help better understand and plan for the changing needs of the system and its riders. WSF also projects that between 2017 and 2040, employment and population on the Kitsap Peninsula will increase by more than 40 percent. On Vashon, WSF expects employment to grow by 7 percent and population by 18 percent in that time.

At the meeting, islanders can learn more about the long-range plan, share their ideas about priorities and considerations and meet the project team. No formal presentation will be given.

The meeting is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Vashon High School. Meetings for other communities on the triangle route will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Sedgwick Jr. High in Southworth and at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Fauntleroy Church in West Seattle.
