Carolyn Virginia Burdette passed away peacefully the morning of August 2, 2018, at her home. She was 97 years old.
A long-time resident of Vashon Island, and member of the Vashon Island Lutheran Church, Carolyn was active in the community until moving off island in her later years to be closer to family. Even then, she continued to call Vashon “home.”
Carolyn was born in Idaho and lived there until her senior year of high school, when her family moved to Oregon. She lived for a brief time in California before settling back in Oregon and ultimately Washington and the island. She attended Oregon State University before marrying her loving husband, Hugh. After college, she worked for Birds Eye foods, then Boeing, Frederick & Nelson, and held church secretary positions at several churches. She often spoke of her church secretary roles as her most fulfilling outside of those of wife, mother, and grandmother.
Some of Carolyn’s fondest memories were of spending time with the people she loved, and traveling to destinations near and far. She shared many travels with her friends and family to places such as Hawaii, the Scandinavian countries, Canada, as well as destinations closer to home. She was always up for exploring a new place, and new adventures. Her love of people was infectious, making friends wherever she went.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Latta Danielson, husband Hugh, brother Duane, son Robert (Bob), and many close friends and relatives. She is survived by her daughter Susan (John), granddaughter Julie (Kerry), grandson Andrew (Dawn), four great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
The unconditional love Carolyn showed to her family and friends will be missed. Her generosity, kind heart, zest for life, and love of her Lord and Savior will forever serve as a shining example for those who knew her, loved her, and will miss her.
In lieu of a service, and to honor Carolyn’s request, her family will gather privately for a celebration of her life.
